Highland Yard

We are pleased to post our first blog. The idea will be to keep Highland Yard fans up to date with race entries, stable additions and exciting developments for our stable.

We will start with an overview of the exciting 3 year-old filly Venetian Harbor. Venetian Harbor is a daughter of Munnings out of the winning Street Cry mare Sounds of the City. Venetian Harbor was purchased as a yearling at Keeneland by Dominic Savides and Joe Ciaglia. Our affiliate company River Oaks Farms, managed by our partner Nathan McCauley, purchased a piece of her soon thereafter. Since then Highland Yard has also purchased into the group. We are very excited to be along for the ride with this talented filly.

Venetian Harbor was a close up second on debut going 5 furlongs on the turf at Del Mar. She followed up that debut with an eye catching 10 length victory on the dirt at Santa Anita on December 29th. She has been training very well at San Luis Rey for trainer Richard Baltas.

Venetian Harbor will enter this Wednesday for the $200,000 Grade 2 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita on February 8th. This race awards points towards entry to the Kentucky Oaks. It will be a goal achieved to have a starter in the Oaks held the first Friday in May at Churchill Downs, the day prior to the Kentucky Derby.
