2020 Racing Review

Highland Yard had eight winners in 2020. We look forward to an exciting group of two and three year olds to carry the Blue and White colours in 2021 but will focus on those in a later blog post.

The highlight of the year had to be the impressive runs of our filly Venetian Harbor owned in partnership with a fun group. Venetian won two Grade 2 races including the Las Virgenes at Santa Anita by 9 lengths and the Raven Run at Keeneland. In addition to these feats, she came second in two Grade 1’s, the Test and the Ashland. As early favourite for the Kentucky Oaks she gave us some great thrills throughout the year. She had a small chip surgery and will return to run in the spring.

Snicket was our best east coast runner in the money six times during the year with a victory last month at Aqueduct. She will get a refresher in Florida and tackle the turf under the tutelage of top trainer Christophe Clement on the NYRA circuit in 2021.

Bottle of Smoke had a great and busy campaign hitting the winners circle four times in Northern California in addition to four other in the money performances for our trainer OJ Jauregui. Bottle is getting a refresher in Hemet, California and will be back to Northern California for the spring meets.

Our European runners didn’t get their picture taken in 2020 but did have a highlight when Come September finished a game 2nd in the listed Victor McCalmont Stakes at Gowran Park in Ireland.

Keep your eyes open for a preview of our young runners for 2021 and a deep dive into the current state of the Highland Yard breeding program including babies due and stallion selections for 2021.

Happy Holidays!
