Boys 3 - Girls 2
The final numbers are in, three colts and two fillies. Not to sound to cliche but to have five healthy foals is all we could have asked. A brief overview of the new babies below.
Speedster Amaranth foaled a very leggy son of Mendelssohn March 25 at Brookdale Farm in Kentucky. Amaranth has been a hard mare to stay in foal and we are very pleased to have her third produce so healthy.
She hung on for a long time but finally our Group winning mare Princess Yaiza delivered a 60 kilogram colt at Baroda Stud in Ireland April 6. The colt by champion European sire Dark Angel was three weeks over due. He will be raised in the next paddock over from his older half brother by Night of Thunder.
Our other Irish bred foal born this year was Illumined’s colt by Gleneagles on February 17. Gleneagles has proven a very reliable sire and we anticipate this colt will follow suit. Her two year-old half sister “Snellen” by Expert Eye is well liked at Gavin Cromwell’s training yard and will likely make a debut this summer.
Miss Chatelaine had her fifth foal and third by War Front on February 27th at Brookdale Farm in Kentucky. The foal will be raised at Brookdale near her yearling full sister now named “Don’t Look Now”. We look forward to seeing the sisters race in the Highland Yard colours with Miss Chatelaine’s trainer Christophe Clement in New York.
Consort foaled a Karakontie filly February 18th at McMahon Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, NY. This is another filly who should take to the turf and will run in New York. We look forward to seeing her in the winners circle at our “local track” in Saratoga. A picture of this pretty filly in the snow at one month old.
