Sunset Shiraz Sparkles on Debut

It was a very promising maiden voyage for Sunset Shiraz at Roscommon Racecourse this morning. Reigned in to the back of the mid-pack by jockey Gary Carrol, she moved around the home turn picking off horses only to be caught at the wire by the 10/11 favourite Cool and Clever. The winner was a colt who already had a run for Jim Bolger.

There was plenty to like from Shiraz on testing “soft” ground over a stiff 7 1/2 furlongs. We will turn her out to pick grass for a couple of weeks before bringing her back for what should be an exciting summer campaign against juvenile fillies in Ireland.

A video of her race (the 1st at Roscommon) can be found here.
