Gold Rush Weekend

An exciting weekend of racing in the Bay Area as Golden Gate fields hosts some big time stakes races. Of particular interest to Highland Yard are the key three year old races, The California Oaks (for fillies) and the California Derby (for colts).

Leading Jockey Kyle Frey will wear Highland Yard’s blue and white silks while partnering with Tesoro in the $100,000 California Derby. A good partnership it is, as they won a maiden race over the same track last time out. The field here is more talented but we are hopeful Tesoro can continue his winning ways. To do so he will have to tackle two strong Santa Anita invaders in Lost in Space and half million dollar yearling purchase Parnelli.

Our talented filly Ida Claire will take on a field of 11 sophomores in the California Oaks two races later in the card. Ida is the least experienced runner in the field but has earned the right to a spot in the starting gate with an impressive win second time out on April 1st. We have no doubt she can handle the distance and should be running late with a chance.
