Sunset Shiraz 3rd in the Moyglare

Talk about game time decisions. The transatlantic cable was burning up early this morning with final decisions regarding wether our prized filly Sunset Shiraz would indeed run at the Curragh in the top 2 year old filly race in Ireland. Trainer Gavin Cromwell knows that Shiraz treasures ground with a bit of ease in it and the Curragh straight course was listed as Good after very little rain in recent weeks. Gavin decided to have her take her chance and indeed she did.

Guided mid-pack by jockey Gary Caroll, Shiraz pushed forward with two furlongs to go and improved steadily to finish 3rd, two lengths behind the regally bred winner Discoveries. Sunset Shiraz added this Group 1 placing to her previous second in the Group 2 Debutante Stakes also at the Curragh three weeks ago.

We look forward to a very exiting career for Sunset Shiraz now firmly ensconced in the top tiers of two-year olds in Europe. She will likely get another start or even two this year.
